Chemoradiotherapy is the combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy to treat cancer, given either concurrently, with both treatments running together, or sequentially, with one following the other, and sometimes using a chemotherapy drug chosen specifically to make the tumor more sensitive to radiation. It is used as a neoadjuvant treatment given before surgery, with demonstrated effectiveness in esophageal cancer, and it is also used in the treatment of rectal and cervical cancer.
