Electrotherapy is the use of electrical energy as a medical treatment, a term that can apply to a variety of interventions including electrical devices such as deep brain stimulators for neurological disease, and it forms part of neurotherapy aimed at changing neuronal activity. The term has also been applied specifically to using electric current to speed wound healing, and electromagnetic stimulation is widely used to treat muscular pain; it has also been applied more broadly to a range of alternative medical devices and treatments.
