Enteral nutrition delivers food to a patient through the gastrointestinal tract rather than directly into the bloodstream, most often by mouth or through a tube placed in the stomach or small intestine. It is used for patients who cannot swallow safely or who need long term nutritional support, and is distinguished from parenteral nutrition, which bypasses the gut and delivers nutrients intravenously instead.

A feeding tube is a medical device used to provide nutrition to people who cannot obtain nutrition by mouth, are unable to swallow safely, or need nutritional supplementation.
Treats: Gastroparesis, Mechanical obstruction and dysmotility
There is at least moderate evidence for feeding tubes improving outcomes for chronic malnutrition in people with cancers of the head and neck that obstruct the esophagus and would limit oral intake, people with advanced gastroparesis, and ALS.
