Femoral Nerve Block

A femoral nerve block is a regional anesthesia procedure that uses local anesthetic to numb the femoral nerve, providing pain relief in the leg by anesthetizing the skin and muscles of the anterior thigh and most of the femur and knee joint. It can be performed using anatomical landmarks, ultrasound imaging, or a nerve stimulator, and is used as an alternative to the fascia iliaca block for hip surgery, though for knee surgery it can delay mobilization and increase fall risk by weakening the quadriceps muscle.
