FOLFIRI is a chemotherapy regimen for treatment of colorectal cancer. It combines folinic acid, also known as leucovorin, a vitamin B9 derivative that reduces the toxicity of fluorouracil; fluorouracil, a pyrimidine analog and antimetabolite that incorporates into the DNA molecule and stops its synthesis; and irinotecan, a topoisomerase inhibitor that prevents DNA from uncoiling and duplicating.
