Hemodiafiltration

Hemodiafiltration is a renal replacement therapy that combines the two other main forms of blood purification used in intensive care, hemofiltration and hemodialysis, into a single treatment. Blood is pumped through the blood compartment of a high flux dialyzer while both convective ultrafiltration and diffusive dialysis take place at the same time, so the treatment removes both large and small molecular weight waste products from the blood in one pass, rather than relying on diffusion alone as hemodialysis does.
