Oncolytic Virus Therapy

Oncologic Therapy

Oncolytic virus therapy uses a virus that preferentially infects and kills cancer cells. As the infected cancer cells are destroyed through oncolysis, they release new infectious virus particles that help destroy the remaining tumor. The viruses used are thought not only to cause direct destruction of tumor cells but also to stimulate the host anti-tumor immune system response, and they can affect the tumor microenvironment in multiple ways.
