Photothermal therapy refers to efforts to use electromagnetic radiation for the treatment of various medical conditions, including cancer. An extension of photodynamic therapy, it excites a photosensitizer with light of a specific wavelength band, bringing it to an excited state from which it releases heat that kills the targeted cells.
