Prothrombin complex concentrate, also known as factor IX complex and sold under the brand name Kcentra among others, is a combination product made from blood clotting factors II, IX and X, or, in a four-factor formulation such as Kcentra, factor VII as well. It is used to treat and prevent bleeding in hemophilia B when pure factor IX is not available, and it may also be used to reverse warfarin therapy, given by slow injection into a vein. A related product, activated prothrombin complex concentrate, also called Factor Eight Inhibitor Bypassing Agent, may be used for acquired hemophilia. It came into medical use in the 1960s, is made from human plasma, and is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.
