A splint is a rigid or flexible device that maintains a displaced or movable body part in position, used to protect an injured area such as a fracture, sprain or tendon injury that is not severe enough to require full immobilization. Splints can be static or dynamic, are typically made of a flexible material with firm structural support secured by buckles or Velcro, and offer quicker application than plaster casting techniques.
