Targeted therapy of lung cancer uses drugs and other agents designed to act selectively on the molecular pathways that drive the malignant behavior of lung cancer cells. Because these agents are aimed at pathways particular to the cancer rather than at all rapidly dividing cells, they are intended to cause fewer toxic effects on normal, healthy cells than older, less selective chemotherapy.
