Surgeons of Antiquity, the Islamic World and Early Modern Europe

Surgeons who worked before the age of anesthesia and antisepsis: the Indian Sushruta, the Chinese Hua Tuo, the Andalusian and Cordoban Ibn Zuhr and Al-Zahrawi, Ambroise Pare of France, the British John Hunter and Percivall Pott and the Japanese Hanaoka Seishu. A person belongs here when the cited article describes a surgeon whose career ended before about 1840. It excludes surgeons of the antiseptic and modern era, who sit in the groups for modern operative surgery and for the specialties.
