Abraham Colles was an Irish surgeon and physician, born on 23 July 1773 and dead on 16 November 1843. He served as Professor of Anatomy, Surgery and Physiology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), and was President of the RCSI in 1802 and again in 1830. His name lives on in the Colles Medal and Travelling Fellowship in Surgery, which is awarded competitively each year to an Irish surgical trainee who is about to begin higher specialist training abroad before returning to establish a practice in Ireland. The Atlas records him as a leading figure of Irish surgical teaching.
