Andreas Aurifaber, born Goldschmidt, lived from 1514 to 1559 and was a German physician of some repute. He became better known through his influence with Albert of Brandenburg, the last grand master of the Teutonic Knights and the first Protestant duke of Prussia. Aurifaber had married a daughter of Andreas Osiander, and through that link and his standing at the ducal court he became a leading figure in the controversy associated with Osiander. The source supports little beyond this, so the entry records him as a sixteenth century physician whose lasting place in the record comes from court influence and a theological dispute rather than from a described medical discovery or practice.
