Anton Ritter von Frisch was an Austrian urologist, born in Vienna on 16 February 1849. He studied at the Pasteur Institute in Paris and then returned to Vienna, where he worked as a demonstrator under Josef Hyrtl and as an assistant to Theodor Billroth, and became a professor at the University of Vienna in 1874. In 1899 he took charge of the department of urology at the Allgemeine Poliklinik Wien, and his efforts helped win urology recognition as an independent subject at the Vienna medical faculty. In 1882 he first identified Klebsiella rhinoscleromatis, the organism that causes rhinoscleroma. With Otto Zuckerkandl he wrote the three-volume Handbuch der Urologie, published from 1904 to 1906. He died on 24 May 1917. His son Karl von Frisch became a well-known ethologist.
