Georg Albert Lücke (1829 to 1894) was a German surgeon born in Magdeburg. He studied medicine at Heidelberg, Göttingen and Halle, travelled to France, Italy and Algeria, and assisted Ernst Blasius at Halle and then Bernhard von Langenbeck in Berlin. He was professor of surgery at Bern from 1865 to 1872 and then at Strassburg. His war surgery experience in the Second Schleswig War led to a book of aphorisms, and he ran a hospital at Darmstadt during the Franco-Prussian War. He wrote widely on thyroid disease and tumours, co-founded the journal Deutsche Zeitschrift für Chirurgie in 1872 with Carl Hueter, and co-edited the 66-part Deutsche Chirurgie with Theodor Billroth.
