Hans Christian Jacobaeus

Hans Christian Jacobaeus (29 May 1879 - 29 October 1937) was a Swedish internist born in Skarhult who became a professor at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm in 1916 and served on the Nobel Prize Committee from 1925 until his death. He was instrumental in developing modern laparoscopy and thoracoscopy, performing the first thoracoscopic diagnosis with a cystoscope on a tuberculosis patient in 1910, and published foundational work on endoscopic examination of the body's serous cavities while advocating for specialized training and instruments in the field.
