Ignaz von Peczely (1826 to 1911) was a Hungarian scientist, physician and homeopath, considered the father of modern iridology. According to the account of his life, the idea first came to him while he was caring for an owl with a broken leg. He noticed a spot in the owl's eye, hypothesized a link between the two, and later tested the theory on other animals and on people. Iridology has been largely dismissed as pseudoscience, but von Peczely's research led to the first known accurate drawing of an iris. The atlas records what he held and how it has been judged, and nothing here is medical advice.
