Ludwig Josef Stumpfegger (1910 to 1945) was a German surgeon, born in Munich, who became the second personal physician to Adolf Hitler after Theo Morell. He studied medicine in Munich from 1930 and took his medical doctorate there in 1937. A member of the SS and the Nazi party, he worked from 1936 as an assistant physician under Karl Gebhardt at the Hohenlychen sanatorium, later served as head of surgery at the SS hospital in Berlin and accompanied Heinrich Himmler as a physician. He took part in war surgery experiments on transplantation, chiefly on Polish women prisoners from Ravensbrück, and used them for his 1944 habilitation on bone transplantation. In October 1944 he was posted to the leader headquarters staff and died in Berlin in May 1945.
