Sushruta was an ancient Indian physician and surgeon who made significant contributions to the field of plastic and cataract surgery. He was the author of the Sushruta Samhita, considered one of the most important surviving ancient treatises on medicine and a foundational text of Ayurveda, addressing diet, surgery, nosology, anatomy, developmental biology, therapeutics, toxicology and paediatrics across 186 chapters.
