Antimicrobial and Antiviral Therapy

Drug therapies that kill or suppress an infecting organism, other than fungi and parasites, which are grouped separately. This includes antibiotic and antiretroviral therapy, antiviral therapy for infections such as influenza, tuberculosis management, and topical or systemic antimicrobial uses such as medical silver. Named delivery settings for these drugs, such as outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy, are kept here because the defining fact is which organism the drug targets, not how it is given. Antifungal and antiparasitic drugs, including antimalarial therapy, are grouped instead under antifungal and antiparasitic therapy, since they target a different kind of organism.
