Growth Attenuation

Pharmacological Therapy

Growth attenuation is an elective medical treatment that administers estrogen to close the growth plates of the bones, resulting in a reduced adult height. Since the 1960s the treatment has been performed primarily on children growing toward an adult height considered unacceptably excessive by their parents and doctors, and the cultural threshold for what counts as an excessive height has shifted over the following decades in Europe and North America.
