Metapsychiatry is a spiritual form of psychotherapy developed by the American psychiatrist Thomas Hora (1914-1995) in the second half of the 20th century, described by Hora as "a scientific method of healing and education based on metaphysical concepts of man and the universe." Hora created metapsychiatry because he felt existing psychoanalysis failed to account for human spirituality and that conventional psychiatric healing was often only temporary; the approach is characterized by a hermeneutic method of interpretation.
