Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic Therapies

Psychotherapies descended from or closely allied with psychoanalytic theory, working through unconscious conflict, early attachment, transference and interpersonal patterning rather than a present-day behavior or thought alone. This includes classical psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy, Adlerian and other depth psychotherapies such as classical Adlerian psychotherapy, attachment and mentalization-based approaches (attachment-based therapy, mentalization-based treatment, adaptive mentalization-based integrative treatment), transference and insight-focused variants (transference-focused psychotherapy, insight-oriented psychotherapy, dynamic deconstructive psychotherapy, status dynamic psychotherapy, recovered-memory therapy), supportive and structured psychodynamic protocols (supportive psychotherapy, good psychiatric management), the interpersonal psychotherapy family (interpersonal psychotherapy, interpersonal reconstructive therapy, interpersonal and social rhythm therapy), and ego-state and transactional models descended from psychoanalytic theory (transactional analysis, reparenting). A therapy whose organizing idea is a present behavior, a humanistic growth process, or a family system rather than the unconscious mind is grouped elsewhere.
