Hernia repair surgery is an operation to correct a hernia, the bulging of an internal organ or tissue through the wall of muscle or connective tissue that normally contains it, and it is performed in two main forms, herniorrhaphy and hernioplasty. It can be used to correct hernias of the abdomen, groin, diaphragm or brain, as well as hernias that develop at the site of a previous operation, and it is often performed as an outpatient, or ambulatory, procedure rather than requiring an overnight hospital stay.
