General and Abdominal Surgery

Broad abdominal access procedures and operations that do not belong to one specific digestive, urologic or gynecologic organ system, together with common general surgery procedures such as hernia repair and breast surgery. This includes exploratory and diagnostic abdominal access such as exploratory laparotomy and laparoscopy, hernia repair of the abdominal wall and groin, breast procedures such as mastectomy and lumpectomy, spleen and lymph node procedures such as splenectomy and lymphadenectomy, and trauma and damage control procedures. A procedure specific to one digestive organ, such as gastrectomy or colectomy, is grouped instead under gastrointestinal surgery even though it is also performed through the abdomen.
