Rhinoplasty, sometimes called a nose job, is a plastic surgery procedure performed to change the shape, size or proportions of the nose, or to improve nasal function and breathing. Reconstructive rhinoplasty restores the form and function of the nose after injuries caused by blunt, penetrating or blast trauma, or treats birth defects, breathing problems and failed earlier rhinoplasties; cosmetic rhinoplasty changes the nose appearance. It may remove a dorsal hump, narrow the nostril width, alter the nasolabial angle, or address birth defects or functional issues affecting breathing, such as a deviated nasal septum or internal or external nasal valve collapse. Surgery limited to the septum alone is called a septoplasty, a separate procedure.
