Clitoridectomy, or clitorectomy, is the surgical removal, reduction, or partial removal of the clitoris. As a therapeutic medical procedure it is rare, generally reserved for cases where cancer has developed in or spread to the clitoris; far more commonly, non-medical removal of the clitoris is carried out as female genital mutilation.
