Islet transplantation is a procedure that transplants isolated pancreatic islets, the clusters of cells that produce insulin, from a donor pancreas into another person, as a treatment for type 1 diabetes. Once transplanted, the islets begin producing insulin and take over active regulation of the recipient's blood glucose levels.
