Practitioners, teachers and clinical researchers of acupuncture, the needling practice that grew out of Traditional Chinese Medicine and spread to Korea, Japan, Europe and the Americas. This group gathers people whose notable medical work is acupuncture itself: licensed or physician acupuncturists who built a clinical practice, a teaching institution or a named technique on it, founders of acupuncture schools and professional societies, and physicians and nurses who study acupuncture in clinical trials and integrative medicine programs. It sits inside the Traditional Chinese and East Asian Medicine group because acupuncture is one branch of that tradition. A figure remembered mainly as a herbalist, a classical Chinese physician or a founder of a different East Asian system such as Reiki stays in the parent group, and a chiropractor, osteopath or naturopath is grouped under that discipline's own group instead.
