Botanical Drug

Pharmacological Therapy

A botanical drug is a botanical product marketed for diagnosing, mitigating, treating, or curing a disease, defined under United States Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act guidelines as a finished, labeled product made from plant-derived ingredients. Purified plant chemicals such as paclitaxel and highly refined fermentation products such as biopharmaceuticals are excluded from this classification even though they too originate from natural sources.
