Clearasil is an American brand of skin care and acne medication whose active ingredients have included benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol, triclosan or salicylic acid depending on the formulation. It was invented in 1950 by Ivan Combe with chemist Kedzie Teller as the first dermatological brand created specifically for younger skin fighting acne, using a sulfur and resorcinol formula similar to the earlier adult treatment Acnomel. Ownership passed through Richardson-Vicks in 1960, Procter & Gamble in 1985 and Boots Group in 2000 before the British-Dutch company Reckitt Benckiser acquired the brand in 2006.
