An orthopedic cast, commonly called simply a cast, is a form of medical treatment used to immobilize and support bones and soft tissue during healing after a fracture, surgery or severe injury. By restricting movement it stabilizes the affected area so bones, ligaments and tendons can align and heal properly, and while most often applied to the limbs, casts can also be used on the trunk, neck or other body parts in specific cases.
