Targeted lung denervation is an experimental bronchoscopic procedure under investigation for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. A balloon catheter carrying a dual cooled radiofrequency ablation device is passed through a bronchoscope into the lungs, where radiofrequency energy is used to block the parasympathetic nerves supplying the airways, relaxing them. As of the mid-2010s the evidence supporting its use remained insufficient, and the procedure has stayed experimental.
