Endocrine Surgery

Operations on the body's hormone producing glands, performed to treat overactive, underactive or cancerous glandular tissue. This includes thyroid and parathyroid procedures such as thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy, adrenal gland removal, thymus removal performed for an endocrine or immune reason such as myasthenia gravis, and pituitary gland removal. These procedures are grouped by the gland being treated rather than by the surgical approach used to reach it, so an operation reached through the nose or skull base for a pituitary or sinus reason still belongs here when its purpose is removing endocrine tissue rather than treating the nervous system itself.
