Endometrial ablation is a minimally invasive gynecological surgical procedure that destroys the endometrium, the lining of the uterus, causing scar tissue to form that prevents the endometrium from regrowing and so reduces bleeding. It is typically used to address abnormal uterine bleeding, does not cure the underlying condition causing that bleeding, and is estimated to be performed on around 500,000 patients each year, usually by a gynecologist.
