Marsupialization is a surgical technique for treating an abscess or cyst by cutting a slit into it and suturing the cut edges so the site stays open and can drain freely, used when a single draining would not be effective and complete removal of the surrounding structure is not desirable. It is commonly applied to Gartner's duct cysts, pancreatic cysts, pilonidal cysts and Bartholin's cysts, and in a dentigerous cyst it can be used to let a growing tooth continue erupting into the mouth.
