A myomectomy, sometimes called a fibroidectomy, is the surgical removal of uterine leiomyomas, commonly known as fibroids. Unlike a hysterectomy, the uterus itself is preserved, allowing the patient to retain her reproductive potential, although the procedure can still affect hormonal regulation and the menstrual cycle.
