Labiaplasty is a plastic surgery procedure for creating or altering the labia minora and labia majora, the folds of skin of the human vulva, and is a type of vulvoplasty. Women seeking the surgery generally fall into two categories: those with an underlying condition such as intersex, and those with no underlying condition who experience physical discomfort or wish to alter their vulva appearance because they believe it falls outside a normal range.

FAQs
Is labiaplasty considered medically necessary?
Not when done only to change appearance, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, though clinical indications are excluded.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states that surgery or procedures to alter sexual appearance or function are not medically indicated, pose substantial risk, and have not had their safety and effectiveness established. That statement excludes procedures done for clinical indications such as pain with intercourse, interference in athletic activities, a previous obstetric or straddle injury, reversing female genital cutting, vaginal prolapse, incontinence or gender affirmation surgery. This describes the recorded professional position and is not medical advice.
