Ophthalmic Surgery

Operations on the eye and its surrounding structures, including the cornea, lens, retina, sclera, eyelid margins and drainage system as they relate directly to vision. This includes cataract extraction and lens procedures, corneal transplantation and reshaping procedures such as LASIK and keratoplasty, glaucoma procedures such as trabeculectomy and goniotomy, retinal procedures such as vitrectomy and scleral buckle, and reconstructive procedures confined to the eye itself such as enucleation and eyelid procedures performed for a medical rather than cosmetic reason. Purely cosmetic eyelid surgery performed for appearance rather than eye function is grouped instead under plastic and reconstructive surgery.
